Norris Geyser Basin
Norris Geyser Basin

Yellowstone in all it's glory. Fall is days away and winter will be coming quick for this amazing National Park. This is a small portion of the Porcelain Basin area in Norris Geyser Basin. This is also the first of many images to come as I finish my visit here and Grand Tetons.

This amazing Osprey nest is built above the Lamar River on the north side of the park. These two Osprey are immature and haven't figured out that they need to migrate south quite yet. In two visits, I never saw their parents.

Yellowstone Bison
Yellowstone Bison

During my time in Yellowstone National Park I was fascinated by the herds of Bison. They are amazing animals, slowly moving through the land.

This little chipmunk was eating it's breakfast while I was photographing Terrace Springs one morning.

Canyon Spire
Canyon Spire

The Yellowstone River flows on through the canyons below the falls. This view is looking down river from the last viewpoint along the south rim road. Beyond the stunning view, I was fascinated with the lone dead remnant tree trunk left standing amongst the newer growth. It was a very sculptural form.

Solitude #2
Solitude #2

These two images are from "Mormon Row" in the south end of Grand Teton National Park. By the end of my trip most of the smoke had cleared but the sky was still a bit hazy. I had promising clouds for a nice sunset earlier in the afternoon but they cleared out. Instead I went for a few golden hour shots highlighting the desolate beauty of turn of the century farmhouses and barns on the grassy plains below the Grand Tetons.

Thin layers of superheated water flow over the building levels of bacteria pads around the main spring. The blue sky and clouds reflect beautifully in the mirror like waters. Grand Prismatic Spring in Yellowstone offers an endless number of opportunities for wonderful images.

Waters Of Life
Waters Of Life

The beauty of Grand Prismatic Spring lies in it's rainbow hues. As the superheated waters go further out from the central pool, they cool (ever so slightly) allowing the various colors to show.

Prismatic Tails

These trailing orange patterns work their way out from the center of Grand Prismatic Spring in Yellowstone National Park. The thin layer of water mirrors the sky as it trails off to eventually drain into the Firehole River.

T. A. Moulton Barn
T. A. Moulton Barn

Within Grand Teton National Park, the T. A. Moulton Barn is one of the most iconic sights beyond the Tetons themselves. The barn has been photographed in all seasons and at all times of the day. This was my second attempt in 2017, at a time when forest fires were making the sky hazy every day. In this case the haze was at it's lowest point and actually brought out even more of the late afternoon golden light.

Mormon Row Panorama

The historical complex of farmhouses on Mormon Row in Grand Teton National Park is diagonally across from the iconic T. A. Moulton Barn and equally picturesque. These two images, one color, the other monochrome, depict the farmhouses in Autumn's late afternoon golden light.

Camp On The Snake River
Camp On The Snake River

A makeshift campground seen along the Snake River in Wyoming is illuminated by the sun breaking through afternoon clouds. I have to say that I was somewhat envious of this camping location while looking down from above.

Undine Falls - Springtime
Undine Falls - Springtime

Just outside of Mammoth in Yellowstone National Park. This waterfall is 60' in height and consists of three sections. The Lava Creek flows over basalt lava flows and feeds into the Gardiner River. This is a vertical panorama made up of seven landscape format images stitched together and straightened in Photoshop. The finished file after working through contrast, transform, de-noise and sharpening is nearly 3 gigabytes in size, but the detail is tremendous.

One Of The Ancients
One Of The Ancients

This ancient tree, probably a Whitebark or Limber Pine was found in Grand Teton National Park. One look told me that it had been through a lot of drama over the many years (centuries?) that it had been around. Still, it survives. The dramatic skies seemed to put an exclamation mark on the portrait.

Snake River Reflections

Further up the Snake River from Schwabacher's Landing, the morning sunrise gives a warm glow to the Tetons. The mirror smooth waters of the river make a fantastic reflection of these beautiful snow-capped peaks.
